Our History

From a few believers gathering at College Hall in the “Old Main” building at Anderson College back in 1906, to building a brick church with a sloping floor over a cabbage patch in 1917, to a mid-century vision breaking ground in 1960 at our current location at 5th and College Drive, Park Place continues to transform with the leading of the Spirit, right in the heart of the space and mission of the Church of God movement.

The founders of Park Place lived in the days of the Gospel Trumpet, right at the beginning of the Church of God movement when it began in Anderson, Indiana at the turn of the 20th Century. The movement has been defined by its participation in the “Radical Reformation” that has been around for hundreds of years, which resists the human tendency for officials in power and private agendas to control the church of Jesus—and instead, positions the Spirit to create the church, which it will govern, gift, and send.

As a part of the broader Wesleyan Holiness Movement, those in the church seek to submit to the higher will and better ways of the Spirit of God, centering their lives around holy living and working to unite people for God’s mission (Missio Dei) in the world. The entire movement centers on God’s Spirit actively working to transform individuals and the church.

Our Future

We look forward to participating in God’s Spirit work at Park Place in three ways:

Transformed lives: spiritual growth, discipleship, and personal transformation

Transformed communities: relational transformation and neighborhood development

Transformed world: Fostering unity in a divided world by creating an atmosphere where barriers between people can be removed
