welcome!
Friends,
We are blessed to welcome Pastor Carma Wood and Rev. Barbara Tuttle into our fellowship and ministry! Each of them is known to many people in our church family and we anticipate God’s touch upon them and us together as we discover new horizons in worship ministry and in the ministry of Park Place Children’s Center.
Carma Wood served as co-founder of Mountain Park Community Church. She comes to us with joy and excitement, moved by a vision of “bridging the span of your rich heritage of transforming worship and outreach to the community and the world, across and into the shaping of a new day as you move into the coming years as a presence of God’s people in Anderson and beyond.” Carma will participate with us in worship beginning Sunday, February 17.
Barbara Tuttle served as a teacher in the Children’s Center for 15 years prior to fruitful pastoral service at Mountain Park Community Church in Arizona. Dorothy Nicholson, Anita Womack, and Lynn Staley are among her mentors. We will welcome Barb during the Gathering at 10 am on Sunday, February 3, and pray for her in worship.
We rejoice that in the wisdom of our Lord, God has brought these two former colleagues to us in a new setting. Welcome, Carma and Barb!

UGANDA PROJECT REPRESENTS A CHURCH ON MISSION
Later this spring 10 people will represent Park Place Church as it continues its relationship with operations of the Church of God in Uganda. The group will take with them a designated gift of $7,500 to be used toward digging water wells. Other funds, including other designated funds of $2,510, will be used to purchase goats, chickens, and the like for the people of Uganda.
The Uganda Project is currently the most visible part of a church on mission. Faith Promise comprises a major part of this effort, with more than $50,000 a year going toward projects ranging from the Park Place neighborhood to places around the world.
Uganda fund-raising continues in the form of a unique effort initiated in the Sunday school, where children have been bringing and contributing quarters toward the project. This is an effort to which everyone can contribute; all quarters placed in the offering plates on Sunday morning are being designated for Uganda.
The Uganda trip, where representatives of the congregation are investing their time, money, and skills in a hands-on way, is but one of the ways in which the church puts word and action together to tell the story.
Local projects funded by the Faith Promise budget include Park Place community outreach, United Faith Housing, Dove Harbor, Habitat for Humanity, local Hispanic ministries, Operation Love, and Triple L Youth Ranch.
There are state and national projects, which include Kurt Salierno’s Atlanta Church on the Street,
Frank Ward’s Chicago urban ministry, Fouad Masri’s ministries to Muslims, the School of Theology, and Curt Walters’ Fishers church plant.
Mission to the world goes far beyond the Uganda Project. It includes Bulgarian national leaders, CBH-International, Heart to Honduras, Kima International School of Theology, Lebanon evangelism and crisis ministry, Mediterranean Bible College, Franco Santonocito’s Mediterranean ministries, Myanmar national leaders, leadership development in Russia, church development and publishing in Serbia, pastoral support in Spain, Amos Moore’s Tibetan ministry, Venture International in the Middle East, West Indies Theological College, church planting in Egypt, and contingency as well as emergency appeals.
That all goes beyond outreach efforts funded through the regular church budget and includes Church of God Ministries, Living Link missionaries, Indiana and local ministries.
Faith Promise is funded entirely by pledges beyond the regular church budget, typically from money unexpectedly gained or deliberately retained on faith. Last year 116 pledges totaled $48,181, with actual contributions bringing in almost $55,000.
Thus far this year 87 people have pledged $42,513 toward a budgetary goal of $46,000. More pledges are welcomed as Park Place Church strives to spread the word of God to a world in need.
Ministry Highlights...
HELPING HANDS VISITATION TEAM began in 2000 under the leadership of Sylvia Grubbs and continues reaching out to the homebound, to persons in Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes, to short term persons just home from the hospital, and to Special Needs. There are over 40 persons who regularly visit 50+ persons a month. Each team is coordinated by a shepherd: Berny Falls with Short Term visitation; Nan Barclay with Homebound; Hyla Klabunde with Assisted Living and Nursing Homes; and Dale and Dorothy Nye shepherd the Special Needs. Phil and Barbara Bruzzese bring leadership to the Helping Hands Ministry with assistance by Loretta Davy.
We are always looking for new people to be a part of this ministry. If you are interested in visiting, whether once a week or once a month, you may contact Phil or Barbara Bruzzese, 644-3482, or any of the persons listed above.

NEWS AND EVENTS
VBS NETWORK TRAINING PARTY, Saturday, April 12, 9:00-12:00 pm. This year’s theme is POWER LAB: Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power. Local VBS directors and volunteers will gather together to learn about this year’s VBS. A Group Publishing VBS expert will guide us through an exciting and fun training party. The cost to attend is $25 for the first person from a church and $10 for each additional person. Park Place workers can attend free. Pre-registration is required. Contact Connie in the church office for more information.
GODLY PLAY FOR CHILDREN ages four through fifth grade. Sunday mornings during the 10:30 am service. The Lenten theme is, “Journey to Jerusalem.” Children will experience the incredible story of Christ’s love and will respond through art.
AFTER SCHOOL FUN is an outreach ministry of Park Place Church for our neighborhood elementary age children. It is managed by AU student director, Rachel Chapman. Rachel works with an AU student staff of 8 and a few volunteers. Every school day about 35 children come from 3:30 to 6:00 pm and enjoy a variety of activities.
Good news: After School FUN has recently become a Kid’s Café site in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank. This is a great addition to our program! It does, however, involve more work and preparation for our student staff. We really need a volunteer to come help us with serving and cleaning up afterward -- three days a week. We hope getting involved with us sounds like your kind of FUN. Please contact Deanna Edwards at 620-4280 to explore this new opportunity in ministry.
